Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Bidhannagar South Police arrested a man from the Veera area of Ashoknagar in North 24 Parganas for allegedly threatening Ward 38 councillor Alok Dutta over the phone. The accused, identified as Sanjay Dutta, was taken into custody late last night and produced before the Bidhannagar Sub-Divisional Court today. Police sources stated that on March 10, Alok Dutta received a call where the accused reportedly used abusive language and issued death threats. The caller allegedly invited him to Alamdanga in North 24 Parganas, and when he refused, the caller continued to insult him. Dutta then informed his husband, former councillor Nirmal Dutta, who called the same number, but the accused allegedly repeated the threats.
Following a formal complaint, Bidhannagar South Police traced the call location to Ashoknagar and conducted an operation leading to Sanjay Dutta’s arrest. Investigators are examining call records and questioning the accused to determine if others were involved or if there was a specific motive behind the threats. Officials stated that legal procedures are underway, and further actions will be taken based on the findings.
Local sources indicated that security measures around the councillor’s residence have been reviewed following the incident. Authorities are looking into any past records of the accused and verifying if similar threats were made earlier. Police officials have assured that all aspects of the case will be thoroughly investigated.
